About Us

The Lateef Project was developed by Abdullah Maynard. The first Islamic counsellors received their nationally recognised independently accredited qualifications in 2001. After writing the Department of Health Muslim Mental Health Scoping Report in 2007, The Lateef Project opened in Ramadan 2010.

Our Vision

Our vision is to help establish communities in which people live in spiritual and psychological health and wellbeing, and where they feel empowered to live their life as they wish to in relationship with the divine, free from mental ill-health and psychological oppression.

Who are we?

Our staff are either qualified Islamic counsellors, Islamic psychotherapists, or (like teaching hospitals with doctors) trainees counsellors completing their professional qualifications.

We understand that Muslims are diverse and that we can have complex and difficult life experiences. We work to support wellbeing spiritually and psychologically in the face of the reality of our clients lives and experiences.

Our Strategy 2024 - 2029

“Not only the systemic improvement of Muslim mental health but primarily the embodiment of the psychospiritual reality of Islam in the current lived reality through psychotherapeutic work, in such a way as to facilitate psychospiritual growth and well-being.“
